Его применяют и окультуривают уже тысячи лет. Большая часть мирового ареала вида является культигенной. Хмель использовался в пивоварении, хлебопечении (компонент закваски для хлеба), а также как пищевое, антимикробное, седативное и снотворное средство, кормовое и лекарственное растение для животных, при производстве бумаги, краски, проведении традиционных обрядов. Возможности современных методов изучения химического состава хмеля возродили интерес к растению и значительно расширили потенциал его использования при производстве оригинальных сортов пива и функциональных продуктов питания, натуральных гигиенических средств, в косметологии и особенно в медицине. Анализ обширной библиографии по изучению вторичных метаболитов хмеля, относимых более чем к 20 классам органических веществ, показывает новые перспективы их применения в противовоспалительной и заместительной гормональной терапии, при лечении метаболического синдрома, онкологических заболеваний, а также в создании натуральных инсектицидов. </p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>An analytical review is presented to highlight the history and current utilization prospects for one of the most popular and widespread crop plants in many regions of the globe – the common hop (Humulus lupulus L.). It has been used and cultivated for thousands of years. A greater part of its worldwide area of distribution is cultigenic. Common hop was used in brewing and in breadmaking (as a leaven component), served as a nutritional, antimicrobial, sedative or hypnotic agent, and was cultivated for animal feed and medicine, for paper and paint production, and for traditional rituals. The possibilities offered by modern methods in the analysis of the crop’s chemical composition have revived the interest in common hop and significantly expanded its potential for the development of original beer varieties and functional foods, natural hygienic and cosmetic products, and especially pharmaceuticals. The analysis of an extensive bibliography dedicated to studying secondary metabolites in common hop (representing more than 20 classes of organic compounds) showed new prospects of its utilization in anti-inflammatory and hormone substitution therapies, treatment of metabolic syndrome and cancer, and natural insecticide production.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>хмель обыкновенный</kwd><kwd>традиционное использование</kwd><kwd>вторичные метаболиты</kwd><kwd>фармакологические свойства</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>common hop</kwd><kwd>traditional uses</kwd><kwd>secondary metabolites</kwd><kwd>pharmacological properties</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Исследование выполнено за счет гранта Российского научного фонда № 23-64-10040 (https://rscf.ru/project/23-64-10040).
